¡Hola all my little ducklings! How are Los Estados Unidos treating you?

Today I decided to send a picture FIRST instead of waiting until five minutes before my hour is up....so...

de nada

Our district, 112. My beloved Elderes y Hermanas. In order from left to right, Elders Winterton, Nielsen, Spiers, and Pearce, Hermanas Barker, Hooper, Hewitt, and Ojeda, Elders Larsen, Avery, Howell, and Olsen.

So, here is life at el CCM.

I can speak some Spanish! I mean, we teach investigators and they actually understand what I am saying. In SPANISH. It is a riotously joyful experience. Well...the Spirit calms us down a bit. But lots of gozo. I love teaching. I absolutely love being an instrument in the hands of the Lord. I feel His presence with me all the time. And prayer in Spanish is becoming home to me now. The language kinda freaked me out at the beginning, but (as was mentioned in my setting apart blessing), within just a few short days it became my own. El Evangelio de Jesucristo es el mismo en cada idioma, cada país, cada persona. I love it.

Last week was a transfer in which we lost tons of people who left for their missions and gained 95 new missionaries! 39 are from the States. The rest are Latino. And only 5 from the States are Hermanas! All adorable, though. More on the newbies in a minute.

It is actually pretty chilly here some of the time! I haven´t experienced any heat whatsoever at this point except for the occasional mild warmth. We didn´t see the sun for days after we first got here! But the first time I saw the moon and stars at night...

NOW THAT WAS A GOOD NIGHT

Hermana Ojeda and I sing a lot. She has a stunning voice and we harmonize so well together. We also dance all the time still. The other Hermanas tell us we are just too cute.

We know what they are really thinking.

Lion and the phoenix

That would be yours truly.

Our district's unofficial theme song is Jesus es mi Luz. The great thing about it is that not one of us actually knows the words. But we can sing the title over and over and over

...and over...

and over again (to the tune of any hymn) and it never gets old. We have some seriously talented vocalists in our district! Elder Winterton is an opera major. And most everyone else has some good background in music. Elder Spiers has perfect pitch. It is awesome. Cannot WAIT for our musical number.

ohwaitthat'severyday

We play volleyball a few times a week. I demolish at volleyball, therefore the volleyball demolishes me. I have a giant bruise on my left hand and I jammed my right middle finger like there was gonna be no tomorrow

(Ahem. The Hewitt Bird is a curse. Tell Josh and Billy and Andrew to watch out.)

OH HEY!

WE SURVIVED AN EARTHQUAKE!

Did I tell you guys about this already? It was insane. Just kidding. It shook the desks and shook me to the core. Just kidding. But it did shake the desks. Just kidding. No. Yes. It did. Anyway. There it was. An earthquake. We lived.

Yesterday I suddenly thought about when Oscar was a puppy and would sniff in my ears. I started crying. Like, tearsstreamingdownmyfacebigbabyabouteverythingcrying because I missed him so much! And it was hard to get to sleep last night thinking about my sweet Baby Dog. Give him loves for me.

Today is Hermana Hooper's birthday! She is 22, I do believe. And I was super duper sad because Hna Ojeda and I got assigned to take one of the new districts out to the temple and shopping for p-day today and our whole district will be together except for us. HOWEVER this district is so wonderful! There are two Hnas, Blanco y Eden, who are the bee's knees. Just such special young women. And the 10 Elders are good and kind and excited about life and the work.

One particular Elder in this district I caught a glimpse of on Sunday morning...Elder Rogers! He was in my fifth grade class! I almost had a heart attack when I saw him because it had been nine years. You all know I am such a creeper...so I didn't say anything (just silently stalked) until yesterday morning when he caught me in the language lab and was like OH HEY HERMANA HEWITT!

Naturally I acted like I had no idea who he was.

But then I magically recalled and we reminisced and we are now pals again. Well, I guess we never really were. But está bien.

we are pals

I cannot express my joy enough to be here doing this work. Each night as I pray and write in my journal I am overwhelmed with love for the people of Perú and gratitude to my Savior for His Atonement and the grand privilege I have to be His vessel. My testimony has grown unimaginably in these past three weeks and I can't wait to see what miracles lie ahead.

Con todo mi corazón,

Hermana Hewitt

P.S. New part of my letters... ¡Risa con me!

Whilst practicing Español in our district, I explained with fervor to Hermana Barker that

"Dios vive. Él tiene un cuerpo del carne y huevos. Yo sé que esta es verdadero."

Quick Spanish lesson for ya, folks.

Huesos=bones

Huevos=eggs.

And we wonder why people think los Mormones son loco...

P.P.S. Pleeeeease write me letters and send them here to the MTC! I will probablemente get them! Or if you prefer you can just send me emails. But I love to hear short snippets about life! I don't have a lot of time to respond to them, but it buoys my soul to hear good things. Love you all!

Just a little note from me... for those of you who don't know Lex is a traditional sort of creature and loves hand-written things, so as much as I prefer digital I am going to force myself to send frequent hand-written letters as well.  The address to the MTC is on the left side of her blog... happy letter writing!  :-)
