Please accept my deepest apologies for not posting Lexi's email from last week on time. I know a lot of you check every week for an update and I let ya down! :-( I'll do better!
¡Mis pollos dulces!,
I cannot possibly explain how much I LOVE MY LIFE. It just doesn't
seem like it could get any better than this. So many things to say and
so little time (plus rather begrudging computers this particular
p-day), but I shall do my best.
First of all, I am giving up on photographs until I get out to the
field. TWO HOO HOO WEEKS!!!! We are the avanzados en el CCM now. It's
crazy business. I feel so old.
Alright. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY to THIS aka Mookie! That girl. I love you,
sissy. I read your letter today and it brought me such joy. Keep being
wacky with Teeya for me.
Oh yeah...so I have this
assignmentbecausethey' renotallowedtocallustosomethin gmorethanthecallingofamissiona ry!
I have been assigned as the coordinator de la musica in the CCM. This
is the only calling any sister missionaries have besides being the
sister trainer companionship (which is Hnas Steckler and Bills; they
will do AMAZING things!). So I am pretty excited. Basically I just
pick hymns for todos los reuniones con nuestra zona y otros misioneros
en el CCM as well as assigning musical numbers and stuff. Interesante.
It's low-key but I actually get to do stuff and talk to people. You
know. The usual.
Here in the CCM there is a Christmas tree. This Christmas tree is
passed down with each transfer to a different district. Then this
district subsequently adds their own ornament and celebrates Christmas
together on their final p-day THEN passes on the tree to their
favorite district. AND GUESS WHO GOT THE CHRISTMAS TREE
our district>>>>>>>>the world..
We have in-depth conversations during personal study time about
different types of screamo music..
Elder Nielsen loves Nickelback. Poor kid. Everyone teases him so much
but he really does like them. One evening Hna Ojeda and I had just
begun our prayer for companionship planning in the district room when
suddenly right next to me Elder Winterton yelled - yes, yelled -
LOOKUHTHISPHO-DUH-GRAPH
Lots of giggling
Lots of silence
Lots of "Lo siento!" whispered from Elder Nielsen and Elder Winterton
as Hna Ojeda valiantly finished our prayer. They honestly felt so bad.
I was shaking from trying to hold in my laughter.
Speaking of Elder Winterton.
Yesterday when the last transfer was partying because it was their
last night, we didn't really get a whole lot done because our maestro
was sick. We actually all memorized a bunch of stuff, but there were
all sorts of random companionship splits and last-minute decisions
made to do unnecessary things. So us Hermanas, studying ever so
diligently, didn´t even notice when most of the Elders decided to go
out in the hall to play with Ricardo Pequeño the hacky sack. Neither
did Elder Winterton. Hna Hooper looked up and saw him sitting alone in
this room full of Hermanas and said his name, hoping to call this fact
to his attention as well.
With a grin he looked around at our faces and waited for the punch
line. Then he realized what was happening...and BOLTED.
I rarely laugh so hard as I did then.
More funny things...LOL is REVA in Spanish.
Rice En Voz Alta. Laugh Out Loud. ¿Entiende?.
At lunch a few days ago we were discussing families of people in our
district. Elder Avery had shown us photos of his and Hermana Barker
said something about his rather pleasant looking brother. Suddenly
alerted, I shout-whispered
"HE is SO attractive!"
And glanced up to realize that my finger was pointed directly at a
passing Elder. Who looked back at me and walked away.
#facepalm
We learned from Hermana Carillo that Spongebob exists here in Peru.
His name is Bob Esponja.
he-he-he-he-hilARIOUS.
Now for the missionary things that happened this week on my MISSION...
Last Wednesday we watched a Mormon Message of Elder Holland's
testimony of the Book of Mormon...in Spanish. Everybody in the class
was all UGH and Hermana Carillo was all ESTA BIEN and I was all DON DE
LENGUAS EVERYBODY.
I have never received a stronger witness from the Spirit of the truth
of the Book of Mormon as I did watching that video that I could barely
understand. It is the truest book on the earth. I gotta tell ya...I
love it.
As far as spiritual things, I have progressed more in this past week
than I think I had in my whole life. Missionaries are so incredibly
blessed. When we were out proselyting on Saturday, we had some
off-kilter experiences with men named Miguel who have friends who
don't stop talking indiscernibly, but we also got to teach the entire
Restoration to a very Catolica woman named Carmen as well as
committing the sweetest lady in the world, Elena, to attend la iglesia
en este Domingo. Oh my goodness. Read Helaman 12:1. I actually felt
like a missionary that day because Hna Ojeda and I were tracting
completely alone. We were guided by the Spirit to those who were ready
to hear us. We got 5 referrals for the area missionaries in barely 2
hours. It was just incredible. Can't even explain it.
And to finalize this incredibly long carta with a miracle.
Hna Ojeda's mama went in for shoulder surgery yesterday morning. She
has an entire joint replacement and has had level 9 pain for eight
years. We fasted for her on Sunday and I spent the day thinking about
how I can better serve my companion.
Last night Hermana Ojeda got a call from her mother. There is none of
the potential infection in the shoulder; the doctor was able to adjust
the replacement and her mother's pain level is going to go from a 9 to
a 1. ONE.
Heavenly Father loves His children so much. It is absolutely undeniable.
I love this gospel. I love my Savior, Jesus Christ. I love the people
of Peru. I love my district. I love being a vessel for the Spirit. I
love being a representative of the Lord. I love my mission and I love
my life!
And I love all of you as well.
Hermana Hewitt.
P.S. Send me letters with photographs and your testimonies. I want to
share stories with my investigators. Love you all! SO MUCH!
